About Me


My name is Isabella, and I am a figure skater, political activist, feminist, and of course, a big reader! I am obsessed with books, I'm always reading, and I'm always trying to get my mom and little brother to read more. I am mostly unsuccessful, though, because my mother loves watching HGTV too much and my brother loves playing on his iPad whenever he can. A lifelong Chicagoan, I am currently taking courses at my local community college so that I can complete an internship with UNICEF, but next year I will be going to Cornell University, and I will graduate in 2022. I plan to double major in Government and Performing and Media Arts. Some fun facts about me:
  1. My favorite TV show of all time is Scandal
  2. I couldn't possibly choose a favorite book, so... the book that has had the greatest influence on me would have to be The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas; my most recent favorite book is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo; my favorite series of all time would have to be Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling 
  3. I am obsessed with Sarah J. Maas's ACOTAR series 
  4. My favorite color is light pink 
  5. I am a very vocal feminist 
  6. I am very interested in politics and social justice
  7. I can't decide if I want to go to film school or law school 
  8. I speak French! 
  9. I'm super old school and am most active on Facebook and I hardly ever use Snapchat
  10. If you are eligible to vote in the USA, and are not yet registered to vote, I want you to REGISTER TO VOTE and VOTE! Not just for presidential elections, but for ALL elections!

I finally sat down to discuss the elephant in the bookshop: ARCs.  ARCs. What are ARCs? ARCs (sometimes called galleys) are Advanced Reading Copies of books that are given to reviewers, bloggers, booksellers, librarians, etc.- people who work in the industry- so that they can provide early reviews, garner buzz for titles, decide whether or not to carry a title (that’s specific to booksellers), and figure out who to recommend a specific book to, among many other things.   This explanation is quite long, so bear with me.   So where do we- where do I- get ARCs? The answer is always the same: through the publisher in some capacity.   The only exceptions to this are if the author personally sends you an ARC for some reason, one of which is that you may have one a giveaway. People Kill People by Ellen Hopkins: The Book I Am Most Conflicted About

TW:  child abuse, racism, domestic violence, sexual assault... I'm probably not even remembering all the trigger warnings because there are so many of them. Just know that this is not a book for the faint of heart.   Oh boy. I don't know what to say about this one. Actually, I do, I just don't know how to articulate it in writing. So. This book follows 6 teens in Tuscon, Arizona. It is told through a mix of verse and prose, though mainly prose. We are told at the beginning of the book that one of the characters, and all of them have motive to do so, acquires as gun. And one of them shoots and someone dies. The 6 teens are very different: we have 2 teen parents; 2 white nationalists; a disabled, fat, LGBTQ character; and a latino character. An interesting this about this book is that it is told from the perspective of Violence, somewhat similar to how The Book Thief is narrated by Death. The Grey Sister Blog Tour!

I am so excited to be working with Penguin Random House Canada for the blog tour of The Grey Sisters by Jo Treggiari! The Grey Sisters is a psychological YA thriller (perfect for fans of Sadie and The Cheerleaders ) about two friends, D and Spider, who return to the scene of a deadly plane crash that took the life of D's sister, after D comes across a photograph that makes her believe her sister is somehow still alive.
