Hey everyone! Have you heard of The Great American Read? If not, you should totally check it out! Essentially, The Great American Read, which is hosted by Meredith Vieira, is a celebration of literature. By polling thousands of Americans all over the country, PBS compiled a list of 100 novels (they are all fiction) that Americans seemed to love most. You get to vote for your favorites (as many times as one vote per book per day), and in the Fall, America's best loved book will be revealed. The Great American Read is a really wonderful concept; it aims to get people excited about novels again, and reading again. OK, so I love the ACOTAR series. It's one of my favorites. And so I will admit that I was a bit biased in my rating. Obviously, if you haven't read the ACOTAR series, don't read this review, go read the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses . The first book is a very loose, dark retelling of Beauty & the Beast with fae. In terms of this book, what seems to be a common opinion among fellow book reviewers and booktubers is that a) this book had no real plot and b) despite the fact that it is supposed so serve as a bridge between Feyre's story and the upcoming spinoff series, it was really unnecessary. In fact, I agree with both of these opinions, but at the end of the day, I really didn't care. I got to read a novella that featured all the characters I love so much without having to worry if one or all of them was going to bite the dust. THIS. BOOK. WAS. FANTASTIC! All of This Is True is definitely one of my favorite books of the year so far. It follows three teenage girls, Miri, Penny, and Sunny, who come up with a plan to befriend the author of their favorite (YA) novel, Fatima Ro. And their plan works... but then Fatima writes her next novel all about them, with devastating consequences. What makes this book so amazing is the format in which it is told: interviews, journal entries, magazine articles, and excerpts from the book Fatima writes about this girls. In fact, what is so cool, is that the novel within the novel is so reminiscent of the girls' lives, that portions of the novel take the place of, say, an explanation of what happened on a certain day. It's kind of hard to explain, but it will make complete sense if you pick up the book, which I really hope you do! I read this book very quickly, because I just could not put it down. First, I just want to say that this cover is GORGEOUS. I'm not going to lie about the fact that I may have bought the book itself solely because of the cover. But the book itself is amazing, and I highly recommend it! We follow our two main characters, Penny and Sam. Penny is a college freshman who hoped to become a writer, and Sam is a struggling aspiring filmmaker. The two have a somewhat awkward first encounter, but exchange numbers nonetheless. The keep in constant contact through text without the awkwardness of actually having to see each other. Like I said, I really, really liked this book. It deals with a variety of tough subjects, and I really appreciated the authentic realness of the novel. The pop culture references were really fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed the parts of the story where Penny is crafting her own novel, and the excerpts that are included. This month, I read the final book in The Illuminae Files , Obsidio . I absolutely devoured it; it was a fantastic conclusion that I gave 5/5 stars. In fact, I gave every single book in this trilogy 5/5 stars. The series starts with Illuminae , and it follows two characters, Kady and Ezra. Right after Kady breaks up with Ezra, their planet is invaded by a corrupt and powerful corporation. Kady, Ezra, and a few thousand people manage to escape onto spaceships, but they have the corporation that wants to silence them right on there tails as well as a possibly murderous artificial intelligence in their way. In each book, we are introduced to two new main characters who are the main protagonists of each book, although the main characters from each previous book make appearances. It's the same format as Amie Kaufman's other sci-fi trilogy that she co-wrote with Meagan Spooner (The Starbound trilogy, I highly recommend them!) Hello Everyone! I am so excited to announce that I will be participating in Penguin Teen's blog tour for the upcoming novel Royals by Rachel Hawkins. Royals is a really fun book that comes out May 1st (just in time for the royal wedding!!!) and follows a girl named Daisy who has to move to Scotland when he older sister gets engaged to a prince. There, an intriguing boy named Miles has been tasked with showing her the ropes of royal life, but Sebastian, the crown prince's younger brother, stirs up scandal everywhere he goes and takes Daisy along for the ride.
